Alec Mendoza

Senior Policy Associate for Health

Alec Mendoza joined Texans Care for Children as a Senior Health Policy Associate in 2022. In that role, Alec plays a key role in our work with the Texas Legislature, state agencies, and stakeholders to support health equity, improve access to health care for moms and kids, ensure toddlers with disabilities have access to Early Childhood Intervention, and more.

Alec’s publications at Texans Care for Children include this policy brief with recommendations to legislators for enrolling eligible children in health coverage.

Before joining Texans Care for Children, Alec spent three legislative sessions working in the office of State Senator José Menéndez, most recently serving as Legislative Director. He helped pass over 20 pieces of legislation to improve the lives of Texans during his time in the office. Alec primarily staffed the Senator on the Health and Human Services Committee, the Finance Committee, and the Education Committee, where he helped push policy centered around mental health, students and teachers, health insurance, and funding for San Antonio and Bexar County.

Alec is currently attending the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Government and a minor in Business from the University of Texas at Austin.

In his free time, Alec enjoys spending time with family and friends, trying different coffee shops, further exploring his hometown of Austin, and cheering on the Longhorns, Spurs, and Cowboys.
