Resources for the Fight to Improve TX Child Care Ratios and Other Standards

Along with our partners, we are calling on the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) to improve Texas child care standards as it undertakes its once-every-six-years review of the standards.

In particular, we are urging Texas officials to improve the child-teacher ratio standards, including the standards that allow 11 two-year-olds with just one child care teacher.

State officials have determined that those standards are dangerous for children, yet they have not changed the standards yet. Additionally, because child care teachers are not able to give that many toddlers the attention they need, those standards undermine brain development during these critical years of early childhood.
