As the COVID-19 delta variant continues to spread throughout Texas and hospitals continue to fill up, we all need to do our part to protect ourselves and our communities, including the children who are too young to receive the vaccine.
As public health experts continue to emphasize, Texans should get vaccinated if they are old enough and should mask up.
But that is not enough. We also need good public policy.
At a bare minimum, school districts should have the option of requiring masks as a way to support in-person school and protect the health of Texas children, families, and teachers and staff.
That is why we are calling on Governor Abbott to allow school districts to require masks.
