The Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021 was signed into law on December 27, 2020. It is estimated that Texas will receive over $1 billion through the Child Care and Development Block Grant (CCDBG).

To ensure Texas adequately responds to the crisis facing Texas child care programs and the families who rely on them, 19 Texas organizations wrote to Governor Abbott and state leaders, outlining several important strategies to ensure the funds are allocated effectively.

We believe funding should support child care educators, who have proven to be essential workers. Funding should support child care providers' ability to build back stronger, with more effective business models moving forward. And funding should support families who need quality child care for their children to rejoin the Texas workforce.
