This week, 70 organizations wrote to Governor Greg Abbott urging him to withdraw his executive order directing the state to remove licenses from children’s shelters that serve children who arrive unaccompanied at the border.

Texans Care for Children was one of 24 organizations from Texas that signed the letter alongside supporting groups from across the country. First Focus on Children and Children’s Defense Fund-Texas spearheaded the letter.

The letter warns that removing state oversight puts vulnerable children at risk of harm. The letter explains, "These children are children first, and should have trauma-informed and developmentally appropriate care that every child separated from their family needs."
