Recommendations to Budget Conference Committee to Support TX Kids

In the days and weeks ahead, negotiators from the Texas House and Senate will meet in a conference committee to finalize the state budget and reconcile differences between the budget bills passed by the two chambers. We have provided them with our analysis and recommendations on multiple issues pending before the conference committee:

BUDGET RECOMMENDATIONS ON MULTIPLE ISSUES

As the conference committee considers the pending decisions on the DFPS budget, we have provided our recommendations to prevent child abuse and neglect, keep more children safely with their families and out of foster care, and support kinship caregivers like extended family or close family friends. We are also urging the committee to support the House budget’s funding levels for Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) and Rider 147 to ensure infants and toddlers with disabilities continue to have access to life-changing therapies. Learn more:

Additionally, along with more than 30 other Texas organizations, we are calling on the conference committee to provide funding to ensure that high-quality child care can stay open for working parents. So far, that funding is not in the budget. Learn more:
