Muna Javaid joined Texans Care for Children in 2024 as a Senior Policy Associate for Child Protection. In that role, Muna plays a key role in developing and executing advocacy strategies to improve the Texas child protection system and ensure families can access mental health services and other supports that help keep children out of foster care and safe with their family.
Before joining Texans Care for Children, Muna served as the Government Affairs Liaison and Senior Planner at Integral Care, the Travis County Local Mental Health Authority, spearheading communications with government officials at all levels, authoring legislative priorities, and providing crucial testimony during legislative sessions. Notable achievements include collaborating with legislators such as Senator Judith Zaffirini and Rep. Donna Howard to conceive, draft, and enact impactful legislation.
During the 2013 legislative session, Muna worked as a policy analyst for the Legislative Study Group Caucus under Representative Garnet Coleman. In addition to her policy work, Muna served as a Service Coordinator for Texas Children’s Hospital, leading holistic evaluations for youth by assessing psychosocial, environmental, cultural, accessibility and medical variables. Notably, Muna created a comprehensive resource guide for families outlining community resources for neurodiverse youth.
In addition to her professional endeavors, Muna is deeply involved with the local community, serving in leadership for Girls Rock Camp Houston and organizing mass mobilizing events like the Texas Women’s March. She is also a skilled workshop facilitator and panelist, addressing topics such as mental health awareness, social movements and diversity, equity and inclusion.
Muna earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with Minors in Women’s Studies and History from the University of Houston and a Master of Social Work with a concentration in Macro practice and specialization in Political Social Work from the University of Houston Graduate College of Social Work. She is a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) in Texas.
