On October 6th, we joined with leading health organizations to send a letter to the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) outlining recommendations for implementing new federal Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) requirements.
These updates — removing CHIP waiting periods and lifetime or annual benefit limits — are now in effect under federal law but have not been implemented in Texas yet. Once implemented, these steps will help ensure kids can get and stay covered without unnecessary barriers. As HHSC moves forward with its implementation plan, families, providers, and community partners will benefit from a clear timeline and opportunities for input along the way.
These improvements are an important step toward keeping Texas children healthy and ensuring every eligible child can access the care they need.
