Child Care Ratios

Testimony to the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services Council

Research has shown that when caregivers have fewer children to supervise and the group size
is limited, the likelihood of injuries and illness in children decreases and opportunities for positive interaction with children increases. Excessive numbers of young children increase the
danger of high caregiver stress and loss of control. These studies have been conducted by Harvard University, the National Center for Children in Poverty, and the National Institute of Child Health and Development, to name a few. Examples of these numerous studies are included as an attachment to my testimony.
