Bracing for Potential Delays and Disruptions in Child Care Amid Federal Changes

Federal officials have frozen child care funding for five states — not including Texas — and directed the remaining states to provide additional layers of documentation to receive child care funds. Providers and families are bracing for potential delays and disruptions.

We urge federal officials to clarify new anti-fraud rules for child care and quickly release funding so parents can continue going to work and providers can continue caring for kids.

Fraud is unacceptable. Fortunately, as Governor Abbott recently said, the state’s Child Care Services program already has “strong anti-fraud processes in place.”

The Child Care Services program in Texas has been very successful, providing 150,000 child care scholarships every year and earning bipartisan support and funding from the Legislature.

Let’s keep the state’s child care program going strong!
