TX Legislature Failing to Fund Child Care - Take Action

Texas is facing a child care crisis — but the Legislature is failing to provide the funding needed to address it!

Working parents are struggling to find affordable, high-quality child care. The lack of child care makes it harder for restaurants, schools, and other employers to hire staff. Child care providers are closing down, and child care educators are leaving the profession to take higher paying jobs at Buc-ees and other employers. Meanwhile, Texas kids are missing out on enriching early learning, as documented by the Texas School Readiness Dashboard.

And it could get worse. A new survey from the Texas Association for the Education of Young Children (TAEYC) found that 44 percent of responding child care providers could close this year as federal relief funding expires.

Along with our partners, we have been urging the Texas Legislature to provide $2.29 billion to help keep high-quality child care open for working parents.

Unfortunately, so far, the Legislature has decided not to provide any new funding.

Please help us keep up the pressure and ensure state leaders understand the consequences of their decision. Visit our Action Center today to email your state legislators and statewide leaders.

Thank you for raising your voice to urge state leaders to fund child care now!
