"Bittersweet victory: FMAP passes" was the message in my inbox this week, after U.S. lawmakers passed legislation to help pay for the coverage children receive in the Medicaid program, even as another program that helps feed hungry children was slated for cuts. We have more news of the week in our round-up below, but first here is the full message from Carla Plaza at Voices for America's Children:
With a vote of 247 to 161, the House passed the state aid bill (HR 1586) [which extends federal support for education, including teacher salaries, as well asa higher matching rate for the Medicaid program]. . . (Click here tosee how your delegation voted on the bill. Please note that this link will direct you to the House vote and you should be able to sort the vote by state.)
Don't forget to thank your members of Congress who voted in support of the measure but make sure to call on them to restore the cuts made to the food stamp (SNAP) program.
See the story under "Family Financial Security" in last week's round-up for more.
