What does it mean to Put Kids 1st?
To keep Texas:
strong,by supporting children's health; safe, by protecting children from harm;
prosperous, by promoting financial security in children's homes;
prepared, by seeking success for all children, even those in trouble; & whole, by fostering healthy development and a sense of wellbeing in children.
When powerful decision-makers in Texas make choices, the people with resources have the ear of our leaders. The millions of children, for whom our public structures and supports matter most, however, do not. We can be the resource they need, when we come together as a group to speak for kids.
Today, graduation rates are higher, community health is better, and prison populations lower in other states, because people have come together to steward strong programs their children need to become thriving adults. From health programs to Head Start, from school nutrition to youth development, the structures that promote children's wellbeing and enrichment ultimately benefit all members of a community.
Texas, too, can ensure a future where children reach their potential. Working together, we have made progress as a state, in the past. Still, Texas has a long way to go—and needs your help. Today we are near the bottom in child wellbeing, but each of us has a part to play to ensure we reverse a trend that dims our prospects as a state.
